Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Gets Advertisements Packed-In?
Island Def Jam Music announced their plans to start including advertisements with their cds, starting with Mariah Carey’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. The album will feature a 34 page magazine insert with a wide variety of ads, as well as Mariah Carey centered features. Mariah Carey will be a test run for this new service, and if it works well, it will be expanded out further.
Frankly, I’m not sure how I feel about this. Album inserts are pretty much awful right now, featuring nothing but the song titles and nothing more. I’d love to see inserts featuring the artist’s thoughts on the songs included and what they mean to them, or what inspired the tracks. At the very least, I’d like to see the lyrics back in the inserts. If that requires ads, so be it. Still, in Mariah Carey’s case, it sounds almost tacky as its packed tight.
